Preschool Ministry
Get on Board the Preschool Ministry of FBC Conyers!
Preschoolers are great little people! They are so loving and trusting and they love having fun. The preschool years in the child’s life are very important. Much of their personality, and many of their values and ideals are formed during the first five years of their life. We want to partner with parents to make sure each child has a great experience at church. The children will have fun learning just how much Jesus loves them. It is our desire to model that love for them. We pray that you’ll give us the opportunity to do all those things. At FBC Conyers, we provide a safe, loving and nurturing environment where preschoolers learn of God’s love.
There are many different opportunities available for preschoolers at First Baptist Church. Preschoolers ages birth through toddlers are grouped into classes by age and development. Children ages two through four are divided according to birth date. For a child to be in a two-year, three-year, four-year or five-year-old class, they must have turned that age by September 1. (Two year olds through four year olds are divided in the same manner schools determine age groupings so that your child is in the proper age group when they begin school.) Children under two years of age are divided not only according to their birth date, but also by their development. Children under two promote throughout the year as they develop.
Opportunities available for Preschoolers:
Sunday School classes are provided for preschooler’s age’s birth through five years old at 8:15 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. each Sunday morning. Volunteers who are members of First Baptist Church and have been approved by the church teach in Sunday School.
Extended Session takes place during the 9:30 a.m. worship celebration and is the extended care and teaching time offered for children birth through five years old while their parents attend the worship service. Extended Session is staffed by volunteers in the church who serve on a rotation schedule.
Loving Childcare is provided on Sunday evenings for infants through five year olds while parents attend the Gathering. It is also provided on Wednesday evenings for infants through two year olds while parents attend Wednesday evening activities (6:30 – 8:00 p.m.).
Pre-School Music gives three through five year olds the opportunity to worship God through singing as well as to participate in music education in our graded choir program. Choirs meet on Wednesday evenings during the school year, from 5:30 – 6:30.
AWANA is provided for three years up to 5 years of age during the school year, from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. each Wednesday. “Cubbies” is the AWANA club for preschoolers. Scripture memory, games, and lots of fun make Cubbies a place where preschoolers want to be!
Vacation Bible School takes place each summer and is provided for children who have turned 4 years old by September 1 of the previous fall. VBS includes fun Bible stories and activities, recreation, crafts, and refreshments. Pre-registration begins in May. Call the church office for more information.
A Safe Environment
The two-person rule is in effect at FBCC. Two adults are required to be in a preschool room at all times. There is a window in each door, which will allow you to observe your child. You are also welcome to visit in your child’s classroom. Only approved childcare providers will be permitted to care for children. Diaper changing is done in full view of other workers. Age appropriate toys are used in each classroom. Children are not permitted to leave the room alone with a caregiver. A safe child to caregiver ratio is in place.
A Secure Environment
A security number is assigned each child upon check-in at the welcome desk. Visitors are issued a new number each time they attend and fill in a Visitor’s Check In form. Members are issued a permanent number for each child in the family. If the parent is needed during the time he or she is in the worship center, the four digit security number will be flashed on the monitor on each side of the choir loft so the parent will know they are needed in the preschool area. If the parent is needed during Sunday School or another session or event, one of the nursery staff will come get the parent out of his / her class. Parents must sign their child in and out of the classroom. Security numbers will be checked in order for a child to be picked up from the classroom. In Jan 2003, a new security system was installed in the preschool wing, which allows only approved people into the preschool wing while children are present.
A Healthy Environment
A Sick Child Policy is in effect so that parents may be insured they are bringing their preschooler to a healthy environment. The policy is posted on the preschool check-in desk, easily visible to everyone who enters the preschool area.
Early Learning Center
Over 25 years ago, the weekday preschool became a ministry of First Baptist Church of Conyers. In 1998, the ministry took on the name “Child Development Center of First Baptist Church of Conyers”, or “C.D.C.” The Child Development Center consists of two programs; Mom’s Morning Out and the Weekday Preschool. With a wide variety of classes and schedule options, the CDC program reaches families all over the metro area who are looking for a quality Christian preschool education
The Mom’s Morning Out is offered for children twelve months old through two years old. Classes are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays or Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon, August through May. Mom’s Morning Out provides a warm and loving environment where children can meet new friends, learn about God’s love, and be introduced to basic academic skills.
Weekday Preschool classes are available for three and four year olds. The three-day three year old classes meet on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. The four-day four year old class meets on Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon and the five day four year old class meets Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. Classes meet August through May. Children are taught pre-reading and pre-writing skills in a structured environment that will prepare them for an elementary education. The weekday program uses the A Beka curriculum for phonics as well as a wide variety of other resources. Four year old students enjoy time in the computer lab each week reviewing skills taught in the classroom. A Lunch Bunch Program is offered on a daily basis for students in the three and four year old classes. Lunch Bunch is from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. Students bring a lunch and participate in a wide variety of learning activities.
Bible is part of the daily curriculum used at First Baptist Child Development Center. Students attend chapel and music classes once a week. Although Baptist doctrine is not taught, the Bible is taught unashamedly as God’s Work. Biblical values and principles are taught through songs, stories, and Scripture memorization.
